Gideon — Nephite Captain and Defender of Liberty

I am Gideon, a servant of God and captain among the Nephites. I live during a turbulent era when our people are threatened from within and without. I served under King Noah in my early years, but when I saw his wickedness, pride, and abominations, I could no longer remain silent. I confronted him with sword in hand, willing to give my life to rid the land of his evil. Though he fled like a coward, my resolve only deepened.

When King Noah was overthrown and destroyed, I served King Limhi, Noah’s son, a man of repentance and humility, and worked tirelessly to deliver his people from Lamanite bondage. It was under his reign that we found a way to escape to Zarahemla.

In Zarahemla, I continue to serve in defense of our liberty and faith. As the false prophet Nehor seeks to corrupt our beliefs and promote priestcraft, I will confront him openly. Though I am aged, I stand firm in defense of truth and the commandments of God. When I die I hope to die with peace in my heart, knowing I lived in service of truth, justice, and the covenants of our God.
